鈥淭he reason I chose to be in the business program is because I want to be an entrepreneur,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 want to start my own braiding salon and being in the business program is going to teach me steps in how I can get where I want to be in life. It is going to teach the ins and outs of my business journey.鈥澛

Connecting across campus with several offices and mentors, Hatton has been grateful for how SSU has prepared her for her future.聽

鈥淥ne person that has helped me get where I am now is Marlita Cadogan,鈥 she said. 鈥淪he showed me how to do certain things in college that I would not have known if it wasn鈥檛 for her. She has been there every step of the way to guide me in the right direction since my freshman year. Something that also helped me was all the resources that were on campus. I learned how to dress professionally by Christina Baker who helped me pick out clothes at JCPenney for the Career Services Etiquette Dinner and Fashion Show that Austin Raines invited me to be a part of. They helped me learn how to dress for interviews and it truly meant so much to me. I feel like I can be successful in the business world because they helped me.鈥澛

Collaborating with the Office of Career Services, SSU鈥檚 Women鈥檚 & Gender Equity Center is celebrating students who 鈥淔lip the Script鈥 on gender stereotypes and enter the programs they are passionate about. Throughout the week and into April, the center will be sharing several spotlights to encourage others to 鈥淔lip the Script鈥.
